Pear Bureau Northwest conducts USA Pear export promotion programs in 38 markets worldwide. Activities target consumers, trade, and foodservice, and include in-store promotions, country-specific POS materials, public relations, advertising, technical trade assistance, ripe pear programs, and key trade shows.

USA Pear Export Facts

  • Season record high volume for Northwest pear exports:
    • 184,496 MT / 9,224,800 standard box equivalents set in 2011/12
    • Increase of 18.2% over the last 5 seasons (from 2008/09 to 2012/13)
  • Season record high value for Northwest pear exports:
    • $210.09 million (including Canada) set in 2012/13
    • Increase of 34% over the last 5 seasons (from 2008/09 to 2012/13)
  • Season record high average price per box exported:
    • $24.08 set in 2012/13
  • In 2012/13, 31.8% of the total USA Pear crop was exported (excluding Canada)
  • Exports to Mexico reached a record high of over 4.2 million boxes in 2011/12 and have consistently surpassed 3 million boxes in 7 of the last 10 seasons (falling in 2009/10 and 2010/11 due to the impact of the Mexican retaliatory tariff on U.S. pears)
  • The top exported varieties are Green Anjou, Bartlett, Bosc, and Red Anjou
  • USA Pears are exported to over 60 countries
  • China, Brazil, Russia, and India are three of the industry’s fastest growing export markets
