Giving Thanks

This year I’m thankful for my strength. I had a turbulent year, including major surgery and a lengthy recovery period, immobility, and a decrease in lean muscle mass and subsequent increase in fat mass. I wrestled with a negative body image during these changes, a nasty side effect of living in an obese body during the majority of my earlier life. But there was a silver lining! Immobility allowed me to reflect on how I crave feeling strong and healthy, and it inspired me to set my goals even higher than before. I am getting back on my feet with drive and a positive attitude! My body and mood continue to improve every day, and I’m so thankful.

Like everyone else, I struggle during the holidays – with weight, stress, exhaustion. Instead of sliding off the wagon, I’m going to sit firmly in the driver’s seat and ride out the holidays with my eye on 2013. You can, too! Remember what you’re thankful for and focus on your fruits and veggies, lean proteins, hydration, and exercise. Take time to relax, plan ahead, and take care of YOU. You’ll sail into the New Year ready for spring. Happy Thanksgiving, happy you!

About Amy Kweller MS, RD

As a Registered Dietitian, I have a professional relationship with pears. But as someone who loves great food, I also have a personal relationship with pears! So there is no better way to spend my time than blogging about this lovely fruit. I will blog about pears from farm to table; healthy living, cooking, and recipes; the therapeutic benefits of pears and a wholesome diet; and how pears can fit into your lifestyle. I have a background in clinical and community nutrition, and teaching others how to lead healthy, fulfilling lives is my goal and passion – so send me your questions. My hope is that everyone who visits this site will find something that lingers long after the browser closes, and I expect that will be a deeper love of pears!
