Pulled Pork and Pear Tacos with Pear Pico de Gallo

Pulled Pork and Pear Tacos with Pear Pico de Gallo

Time for a taco party! In this festive recipe, pears appear in two ways: braised with pork shoulder to create depth and sweetness for a juicy, shredded taco filling, and also mixed into a zesty pear and jicama pico de gallo for topping. There will be plenty of the flavorful slow-cooked meat to feed a crowd, and any leftovers can be frozen for quick taco making for future weeknight dinners. Serve with margaritas and chips and salsa to round out the menu. Ingredients: 3 1/2 pounds pork shoulder (pork butt) 1 tablespoon kosher salt 1 tablespoon chile powder 2 teaspoons ground cumin 1/2 teaspoon freshly ground pepper 1 tablespoon extra-virgin olive oil 2 large ripe USA Pears, peeled and chopped 1 small white onion, finely chopped 1/4 cup chopped fresh cilantro leaves and stems 4 canned chipotle chiles with a Continue reading

An Adventure of Flavor Awaits You!

Continuing our special movie promotions with Fox Pictures Mexico, USA Pears has an Epic promotion going on in Mexico City, Guadalajara, and Monterrey this month.  Similar to our previous promotions, there will be a special pear display in the produce department where shoppers can sample ripe, delicious Green Anjou pears, pose for photos with props in front of the movie poster, and enter to win prizes.  Head over to the Peras USA Facebook page to see some of the great pics of adults and kids alike! In Spanish, the movie’s title is El Reino Secreto, or “The Secret Kingdom.” Check out the trailer below, and you can see it in theaters when the movie opens in the U.S. on May 24! Don’t forget your pears!

We’re cleaning house around here, and this “vintage” poster from Mexico that I came across is a great reminder: don’t forget your pears!  The produce department at this time of year is full of summer fruits like peaches, cherries, and berries.  But you can still enjoy sweet, juicy USA Green Anjou pears, too – great things go great together!  Nothing says summer like a simple fruit salad: my personal favorite combination is Green Anjou Pears, bananas, grapes, white peaches, and raspberries.  Yum! Mint-Poached Bosc Pears

I’m visiting the markets in Mexico this week, and attended a recipe demonstration that is, coincidentally, perfect for St. Patrick’s Day! Ingredients 8 Bosc USA Pears, peeled, cored, and cut in half 1 ½ cups sugar 1 ½ cups water 1 teaspoon green food coloring ¼ cup mint liquor Directions Boil water in pot, add sugar and pears and cook for 15 minutes at a rapid boil. Turn down heat and allow to cool. Add food coloring and liquor, covering the pears. Refrigerate 1 hour before serving. Serve with chocolate sauce, if desired. yield: Serves 4 preparation time: 25 minutes difficulty: easy Facebook Twitter Google+ Pinterest LinkedIn

Chipwrecked

Since more USA Pears are shipped to Mexico than any other foreign country, we get to do extra activities from time to time, above and beyond our regular sampling in grocery stores – like the Marmaduke and Gulliver’s Travels promotions.  This year, it’s Alvin and the Chipmunks: Chipwrecked.  This was one of my favorite cartoons growing up – I can’t hear certain songs without flashing back to certain episodes (anyone else remember the chipmunks’ versions of “Bad to the Bone,” “Beat It,” and my personal favorite, “Puttin’ on the Ritz”?  But I’d better stop with the 80s nostalgia before I spend my afternoon looking for clips of these on YouTube…). Shoppers in Mexico can visit the USA Pears display at the grocery store to have their picture taken with Alvin, Simon, and Theodore, as well as Anjou, Red Anjou, and Continue reading

Savvy & Peras USA hit Mexico City

Back in December, I posted a video about our upcoming promotion with The Wannabes Starring Savvy.  Shoppers in Mexico can find USA Pear and Savvy displays in grocery stores, as well as participate in contests to win prizes. Savvy just wrapped up a visit to Mexico City and two concerts sponsored by USA Pears.  Audiences were treated to awesome performances, a meet and greet with the band, the chance to win Savvy posters and t-shirts, and gift bags full of USA Pear goodies! Since not all of us were lucky enough to be there in person, here’s a look at the fun! Facebook Twitter Google+ Pinterest LinkedIn
